I've tried several different ways as well, and despite what others think or say, I can atest to using Crystal Wave/Tenai's Crystals/Arcane Echo to kill them all in large groups yields less drops/gold to doing this sequence:
AE/CW/TC/{AE'd Skill} Then hitting Sliver Armor. When one of the Crystal's recharge, hit it once only. Then continue Arcane Echoing Sliver until all are dead. Might be a few seconds longer than just slaughtering them, but my drops are much, much better.
Just my $.02

Basically, killing a mass very quickly seems to give less white/ blue/ purple/ collectible drops. However, most items you want/ are farming for are not restricted by loot scaling. Event items, golds and the like.
So you would get more items, by killing 1by1 but generally it'll just be more white/ loot scaled items. And usually, speed and doing more runs in the same amount of time generally amount to the better items being dropped more/ quicker.

Can someone clarify what Golds actually are exempt because I thought Golds were Golds

There is a difference:
Gold is affected by loot scaling. By gold, what is meant is gold as in money. For example, a creature drops 102 gold. That is what is meant by 'gold'. It doesn't mean items, it just means money.
Rare (gold) items are exempt from loot scaling. Rare gold items mean gold item drops. For example, a creature drops a gold Scythe.
See the difference? It's pretty clear.

I do like the person above and kill vaetir 1 by 1 using sliver armor once having done 5 waves. More drops per run...

Since vaettir are a repeatable farm with basically zero set-up time, and they drop moderately valuable golds, I'd think that the take-home lesson from Nechtan Thaumaturge's opus for this case is that you might as well blast them all at once (or 2 groups of 30), and just repeat as quickly as possible.

Ah my bad. I thought of it as purely Golds as in Gold Items thinking the difference was gold weapons and alike would be NLS and things like sup runes would be LS.
